What a relief! After a full week of damp, cold, foggy mornings, at last we have a little sunshine. I walked through and out of Chandon westwards. It was only 1 or 2 °C but it felt a lot pleasanter than that.
The dad of one of my son’s school friends, in his car, back from the school run presumably, stopped on the road next to me and we chewed the fat until a tanker truck wanted to get through and we had to cut our conversation short. Thank goodness really, once he gets started you don’t know when it’s going to stop.
On the way back, a few hundred metres from home, a couple of herons were picking around the stubble in a field. As I got too close they took it in turns to take off and fly half-heartedly just a few metres away. For such big animals they take off with enviable ease and grace. It’s a joy to watch.
